Sorry if this comes across a little blonde but just how do they avoid the underground network, sewers, electricity cables and the like?

I always assumed that they go deep enough to miss all those things.

Well Crossrail preparations have been going on since at least 2009 so I assume anything likely to be in the way has been taken care of (moved or whatever).

This article here seems to indicate that (this is a site for young people interested in Crossrail)
