I think it was trying to be Blackadder - and it failed miserably. I watched for a little while and then turned it off. Very disappointing.

Fry is no Atkinson and never will be....only thing i have ever rated Fry at is the Audio books of Harry Potter.

it's quite difficult to parody Dickens, and if it was an attempt at humour, then it failed miserably. Good actors gone to waste

I finally finished this programme on iplayer (having started to watch it when it originally went out).

I have to say, it did get a bit better in the last half hour. But like so many of you, I pretty much had given up when watching the first half.

It wasn't the funniest comedy by far.
