Well if you put your name down on your local council exchange list, and say that you will move anywhere in devon or cornwall, you might just be lucky in that someone may want to come back to manchester for many reasons, family being the main one. If you're offering, say, a 3 bedroomed house but will accept 2 bedrooms, that's even better. Even if you don't get the exact place you want, you can swap again from, maybe, a better area. I came to the south Wales coast from north London, because the family wanted to be near their son who lived in central London. Get your name down asap and keep looking for potential swappers too. All at your local council. Good luck.
