Okay I made a decision. I am stating it here because I don' t want to be justifying it to myself so if anyone thinks its stupid or dangerous then please say.
My sleep is shot to bits at the moment, night sweats and dizzys, bad thoughts and bad dreams if I can sleep at all. I could go to my lovely doc but i really really don't want to take tablets.
What I have decided to try about three times a week, no more is to have a few drinks. If I do that i get a decent night's sleep. It doesn't take a lot of booze, about half a bottle of wine or equivalent. I don't drink at all on the other nights.
You are my bar of common sense, please comment.
and making the post appear
Morning all...well I actually got a normal nights sleep last night...wonderful. Its freezing here, -3 and the boys have had a very exciting run around and snuffle and are now snoring. I am going to finish my cup of tea and go for a snooze.
Morning woofy. I don't know what to say as I'm not much of a drinker these days and I find that drink wakens me after a couple of hour, but do what you feel you need to. It's not surprising that you are having trouble sleeping, you've been through more than enough.

Morning all. Am off to Ibiza town (it is a city but so small it's ridiculous to call it that) to look for wedding outfits! We are on red alert for snow, yippee!

jno, did you go to Hemmingways's House? Any photos?
It is 1° yes that is 1!!!

Morning all...wheeeee, neti's the same as us, 1C! Not so sweti now eh? Looking even lower as the week goes on so I'll keep wafting it your way :o)

Almost half term Jude?!! I know the Easter eggs appeared last week...oooh, stop the world

Sorry you had some trouble to spoil your holiday jno...hope you get everything sorted. The main thing is you're home safe...and hopefully healthy.

Well woofy, I've had times when I dreaded going to bed, even when I was exhausted I knew it would be a waking nightmare from start to finish. I really thought I was losing it at one time. It will pass but in the meantime you need to try and get into a strict pattern, our bodies seem to understand routine even if our heads don't like it :o). Always try to go to bed and get up at the same time, whether you've slept or not...a drink might help and as a seldom drinker I found a glass of wine did help. I listen to the radio/do easy puzzles and I've got a relaxation cd given to me by a hypnotist that's so bloomin boring it often works, haha. This might sound daft but I used to hold onto something and concentrate on it, anything, a smooth pebble, a soft hanky..(bit like being a child I suppose)...and I told myself if I could keep it in my hand all would be ok. The amazing thing is I can now sleep and hold the same all item all night...no neti, not my handbag.... it's funny what you teach your body to do.
I hope you settle into a routine soon, there's nothing worse than those long hours spent awake.

It's gonna take a whole lot of motivation or hypnotism to get me out of the door today, it's sooo bleak.
Question Author
oh, how could I forget?!! Have you seen who's going to be in Downton? Only one of my favourite people, Shirley MacLaine! :o)

tut, someone hasn't been doing their job.

woofy, I'm not normally all that bothered by sleep since it seldom matters when I wake up (unless I have an early Dr's appointment or something). But if I go more than two nights with really erratic sleeping then I will do whatever it takes. As far as I am concerned drink is as good a sleeping pill as any other, though if I overdo it I wake up with a headache (and unfortunately it doesn't take much to overdo it these days). I get zopiclone from my GP but apparently they're udner orders not to hand out too many as the government wants them to investigate underlying causes of sleeplessness rather than just dishing out pills. Stupid Lansley, I KNOW the underlying cause, it's 40 years of shift work plus being old, now just GIMME THE PILLS. For heaven's sake, what's the worst that can happen, that I'm addicted to pills by the time I'm 80?

I also buy armloads of over-the-counter stuff when I'm in the USA so my case is still rattling with Simply Sleep pills, which are gentle and quite useful for about four hours a go.

neti, yes, spent time at Hemingway's house, counting the toes on cats.
Jno, counting the cats' toes yes, we were all doing it, and I loved the little pool. I would love that house, it's like some of the old ones over here. Did you go to Sloppy Joes (or one of them!)

1° my aunt fanny, it's at least 11°, was sweltering on the bus but it was a bit cool in the air. Went to 100's of shops, and they were all astounded by the bazooms, cos they do not look big until one is trying a dress on and they just will not go! I knew one of the saleswomen and she said that I was so Ibiza cos of the way I dress, quite like that idea. Then coming back the bus driver has a little crush on me, we used to drink coffee together in the summer and he calls me Catalina cos never heard of my real name. He has a new bus and when he saw me in the queue he made me get on first, ignored my bus pass and took me to his "best" seat, OK I thought, then realised that he could see me in his mirror the whole journey. So I just ignored him and listened to 4 seasons (pop group) on mp3. I dived off the back entrance and quickly waved as I passed him!!
My issue with not sleeping at night is that I have to be up and alert early to take the dogs out. If I don't take them out for an early run, its too busy around here to take them later. I don't drink enough or drink it late enough to be over the limit when I drive but if I don't get to sleep till 2 am, getting up at 4.30 or 5 is just not doable.
Anyway enough of my troubles, Robi thank you for the good advice...I do the regularity and getting up thing but wherever `i am at the moment, the thoughts come. Its deeply cold here, was -3 this morning so we are having chips for lunch.

oooh, it's cold...it was snowing a bit when I went out. They threaten us with a cold snap & the whole world and his wife turn out, trollies piled high, it was worse than xmas. What the 'eck?!

Well look out Northgate, I bet my aunt's still flirting with the young doctors shaney. :o) She's always been a theatrical wild child, a beauty queen in her day. She'd have that bus driver away from neti no problem...if he wasn't hidden 'neath her bazooms. Neti's bazooms I mean, not my aunt's...I come from a long line of stiks.

I think you might feel better and get into a routine when the days are longer woofy.

Sorry but you'll have to make a much better effort to qualify for Best Answer jno, try sending money...or handbags.... that might put you in the running.
Oh your aunt sounds great Robi!
Oh more bad news here, my sister who has terminal cancer, her son who is 48yr, also has cancer of the back of the nose, apparently not too common but inherited from his Chinese grandfather. She is gutted. He has sinus problems for over a year and was losing weight and t hey washed out his sinuses and then found this. How much more? Now B-i-l is back to his old chipper self but has uncontrolable diarrohea, and they won't put a pad him cos of his wound so it gets everywhere, due home this week sometime. Don't think other sister will be able to cope 24/7. What a world!!
Oh Neti, I am so sorry. Does the hospital know what is causing you BiL's runs?
Question Author
Oh neti, what a lot of troubles, I'm so sorry your family are having to cope with all that.x
Oh dear Neti ,that's all very sad .
Surely he won't be allowed home until his runs are under control .Your sister doesn't have to cope with this 24/7 all her own you know .They have district nurses and social services to help and she should already have been put in touch with them via the hospital if he is due to come home .
It's no fun clearing up poop as I know all too well .Burst and leaking stoma bags etc .until things got under control .
There is help for them and they should use it .No use struggling along ,take all help that's availiable.
Bloomin' freezing here ...
My crew have decamped back to the Fatherland .
Have a nice evening all .Toodlepip .
Oight oight all, it's cold here too.
Hi All. A bit late aren't I. Had a bit of a different day.

Sorry Neti about your family's problems. Thinking about you and hoping that they get help as Shaney suggests. I'm useless at giving advice. I'm better with the practical work coping with anything to do with bodily functions and could quite easily help with that. No problem. I used to do all that when I was nursing auxillary in a local special needs hospital. I've had my NF round today asking me to redress her knee because she gets queezy doing anything like that even.

So Woofy I wouldn't be able to advise you on how to get a good nights sleep. I do realise you must have thoughts that take you over because I have had them in my life but I think everyone deals with them in a different way. The only thing I would say is, if they got too bad for me, then I would go to my Dr. Anyway I hope you sleep better tonight.

I'm off to bed now...I'm off to the Orange shop tomorrow for them to set up my new phone for me,
Oight Oight all see you tomorrow x
I've just watched Prisoners Wives .It was good .Something for you to download Neti .i think you would like it .The Fixer wasn't bad either .

I'm looking forward to Downton Robinia if she's going to be in it ..I found a quote by Shirley Maclaine .
"I want women to be liberated and still be able to have a nice ass and shake it. "
Lady Grantham ..."How terribly vexing ".
A rich American and a dowager duchess going head to head .It can't fail .

Goodnight all .Sleep well .Hope you have a better night tonight Woofy .
