Wiithdrawing statement i gave to police?

we went a drive to the garage, he didnt have a license and he was ok when breathalised. i had been drinkin therefore couldnt drive. he told me to tell police "he stole car and i ran after him. i got in the car and was askin him to go back then we were ok and we went to garage. on way home he crashed into a lamppost" now i dont know what to do i wasnt breathlisedd and signed my statement i dont want him done for car theft, as i allowed him to drive, please help me with some advice. this is the only time ive evr been involed with the police ive been a complete idiot! thanks in advance for your advice x

Well, you did what he told you to do.

I'm not sure which of you is the most foolish but I suggest you BOTH go and explain exactly what hapoened.
honesty could be the best policy as you dont want him to face charges for something he didnt do.
be aware that you could be prosecuted for allowing an unlicensed and uninsured driver to use your car. Your insurance will be null and void, you will have to pay for the damage to lampost and your car.
Plus you could be charged with perverting the course of justice like these two
