To be different, as simple as that, or so it seems! http://wiki.answers.c..._times_newspaper_pink
I think that originally it was to distinguish it from the Times, when it was a broadsheet. Mind you, I'd be a bit wary of carrying a pink paper under my arm!
They say pink is the new white.
Some French newspapers have different sections, such as sport and finance, printed on different-coloured paper.
Almost correct mike... In 1893, the Financial Times first began printing on salmon pink paper to distinguish the FT from its major competitor, the Financial News.

to make copying awkward
Micky - not sure about pink being the new white. A young KKK member in Atlanta put his sheets inio the wash, not knowing there were red socks in there. There wasnt time to bleach them, so he went to the local chapter meet in pink.

Wasnt very long before he was kicked out......
Just so that people could keep on doing that joke ...

What's pink and hard in the morning?

The Financial Times crossword.
I'm sure I can remember the FT being published on white paper when I was younger; perhaps the pink was no longer necessary when the two rivals merged. I seem to recall it's reissue on pink paper was a news story at one time, though I could be suffering from false memory syndrome; alas too often with me these days.
On January 4, 1993, the FT was printed on white paper to celebrate 100 years "in the pink."
All newsprint used to be pinkish, and publishers had to pay extra to get it bleached; the FT decided not to. These days it's the other way round, it comes white and they have to pay to get it painted pink again, but they think it's worth it for the brand recognition.
When I were a lad and used to drive a coach, I found The Times paper was an excellent material for buffing the coach windows, and much better than chamois leathers. Didn`t matter about the colour and probably still is better.
"painted pink" LOL jno, that must be the gnomes of Zurich keeping busy overnight... <<oops I said Gnome, I hope I am not in trouble>>
Years ago our local paper The Yorkshire Evening Press used to print a late edition in pink just for football and racing results.
^ on Saturdays...
If I remember correctly my dad used to have a sports paper that was printed on pink paper.
The Newcastle Evening Chronicle published a sports paper late on Saturdays, called The Pink, for that very reason.
