A close friend of mine is dating a man who smokes a joint most nights and a few at the weekend.

Should that ring alarm bells?

I suppose it depends how close to an alarm he is when he lights one I guess.

lol thanks!!
Boo....LOL

The smell alone is off putting.

It would ring alarm bells if I was a woman.
I think it depends on your expectations in a man, if you are ok with it I don't see it being a problem. Personally I prefer a man with a bit more get up and go.
At least he doesnt smoke it all day though!
I smoked all the time-never did me any harm and..
what was the question?
Question Author
She says he never really wants to do much and this is obviously why?
I'd only be concerned if he didn't pass it round

....perhaps if she supplies the munchies
It's all down to lifestyle,if she's not into that sort of thing then it probably won't last long-the relationship, that is!
Question Author
She has never smoked or taken drugs so I think finds it a bit dull. She has lots of get up and go and finds him a bit too laid back.
So why is she still with him?
Question Author
He is a nice guy otherwise!
I'm sure he is and she obviously likes him but someone who smokes every night aint gonna change and she's going to get bored with him sooner or later. I wouldn't be worried though, are you concerned that she is going to get into some druggy world or something? What are the alarm bells about if you say he's a nice guy?
Question Author
I dont know really!! She is a strong person so I dont think she will become a druggy.

Just wondered if it was common for people to smoke it every day?

I guess its no different to a couple of glasses of wine?
Yes exactly ,except one's illegal.
Sounds like your friend knows what she's doing. Good she's got a girlfriend who cares about her too.
my boyfriend used to do it very often and it made him so paranoid it nearly ruined our relationship, if she's not been with him very long and he starts getting paranoid tell her to get out because it was so hard to deal with and if me and my boyfriend hadn't been going out so long beforehand don't think we would have been able to get through it
Could lead to Mental Health problems in the future, including severe bouts of Paranoia and possibly depression. He'll probably be complacent about most things, so yes, I'd say it should ring alarm bells.
then again
one's illegal - the other kills many more people, ruins lives ... causes severe liver damage - causes violent outburst

surely a binge drinker would be more of a concern

Thank you all for your comments.
If you, sorry, she can find anyone anywhere who has successfully and truthfully improved thier lot through smoking this abominable stuff, then y, sorry she could form a honest answer to this question... and then stop herself making the wrong decision. She could also if she wished join him in his endeavour to find squallor in life, ( the easy way?) stand by for the floodgates to open now....

Pete
Sal, I'm a prude so I wouldn't have it.. but I can't stand smoking anyway.

we all tolerate different things, so I guess she'll have to weigh up the good against the bad.

but it would be a no from me!
