Mary , queen of charity shops

I work in a charity shop & was amazed at what Mary said on her tv prog. I`m sure I heard her say to a volunteer
"put Brand New on the ticket". Isn`t this wrong? even if never worn or used the item is second hand?
We have always been told never to write new on donated items.

Not if it has never been worn, no different to an article being bought from a wholesaler before being put on sale.
