What is her real name? Even her BBC biog doesn't say. I doubt that her parents would have been so unimaginative as to give her a name that sounds like a nickname derived from her surname or so cruel as to give her the affectionate name of Britain's longest-running TV soap.
All the other presenters of the Today programme are referred to by their proper names, or by a recognisable short form (Jim Naughtie, Sue MacGregor etc). I'm sure that Ms Corfield does not object to being referred to by a nickname, but it seems a bit disrespectful to me.

I have searched the web - as i am sure you have - and it does appear that this is the lady's name, it is not an abbreviation.

There is no accounting for names people give to their children. My wife was a primary school teacher, and one of the familes who signed up their child for a September intake had the surname Carte (apparently pronounced Cart-aye) but that didn;t stop them naming their child Orson.

That is true, believe it or not!
there was a girl in my class at school called hazel nut
Could a made it Corrie Weatherfield now that would have been cruel
There was a sports presenter on Meridian named Christopher Peacock (anyone remember him?) whose first name was always shortened to Chris. When Fred Dineage introduced him he always rolled the two names together and it came out as **********. lol
