we know its a soap ??
its called entertainment you sound a real bore,
but this episode was half and half they worked for many many years with clive hornby and it was very moving to know that most of the tears would have been real ones not glycerine
i thought diane looked genuinely upset and real tears
I kept the tears back till right at the end to where Diane saw Jack.......and then when they played Imagine, the floodgates opened. It was so nicely done. A real tribute. I reckon Diane's tears were real life ones.

how did he die ?
I enjoyed it too but got a bit lost with it all - was Butlers Farm where they all grew up? I thought it was another farm, and when the boys were remembering Jack's voice I couldn't remember why Robert had left - was it over Katy?
yup it was over Katy--a leg over Katy to be more exact
Clive Hornby who played Jack died from prosate cancer last year and after talks with Clives family it was decided they would do a tribute episode with Jack having the heart attack. Butllers Farm was the original Emmerdale Farm when the progamme was called just that. Yeh Robert left over the Katie thing.
Thank you chinadog and beejay, all this time I thought it was another farm as the layout looks different to how I remember it. I'm glad they brought Robert back though, that was good, it was all so moving and sad.
I thought that the whole episode was very well done. It was so moving & yes, I cried. How lovely was that gesture of Val`s with the photo of "Jack". What a great tribute to Clive Hornby to have his photo up in the bar.
No one has mentioned the wonderful, 89 year old actress Sheila Mercier who played Annie Sugden.

I did not realise that she is the sister of comedy actor Brian Rix.
Yes it was brilliant acting last night deggars with real tears as well. Pips, Butlers Farm is not Emmerdale Farm, Jack was forced to sell it when he got into difficulties. Andy took on the tenancy of Butlers owned by Home Farm Estates. In the real world Butlers is a working farm in a village called Eccup and the original Emmerdale Farm buildings are in Leathley near Otley. I have been to some of these locations, met some of the cast and had a lovely time. The village is now a purpose built set in Leeds but looks very authentic.
Thank you so much moonshadow for all that information, I thought it looked different to the old farm. I used to watch Emmerdale Farm years ago when I lived at home as my mum was a big fan, then I lost track of it when I got married and had a family. I watch it again now but it is so different and your memory plays tricks.

hi moonshadow
the emmerdale set is just outside leeds somewhere
but the village is purpose built in the grounds of harewood house if you can use google earth you can look down on this and zoom right in also go onto itv soaps web site/ emmerdale/ and click web cam on the left you can see the village and sometimes filming going on
enjoy
I was waiting to see if Joe Sugden turned up for the funeral of his brother Jack, then Annie said she had just buried the last of her children. I've obviously completely forgotten a chunk of the story somewhere along the line, what happened to Joe??
