I heard that Heartbeat and The Royal have been cancelled.Could the reason for the fall in viewers possibly be the way in which ITV have scheduled both series over the last couple of years as a filler between other shows?

Don't know, but could there be a connection between it being cancelled (which I had not heard about) and the accident this weekend which left about half a dozen members of the cast injured.

I agree marwel7,

The past 2 years they have both been put aside for Celeb on Ice etc.

I used to really look forward to Sunday Nights on TV. but now its crap.
I hate the way they show a few episodes of Heartbeat, then a few Royal, then back to Heartbeat, then Wild at Heart, then one or two Royal, then a few Heartbeat...

I wish they'd start the series at the beginning and let it carry on until the end - a good 8 or 10 weeks or so instead of chopping and changing.

None of the cast were injured, by the way - it was one guest actor and the rest were behind the scenes crew
Does anyone know how many episodes there are "in the can"?
With regards to heartbeat, burger me its bein running nearly 20 years, I mean how many sheep can go missing?
Am I unusual in not liking any of these series? - I feel that Heartbeat especially got stale many years ago. Basically, they are all very similar - just different settings.

I should like to see more vibrant entertainment on a Sunday - some really good plays would be good. I used to love Sundays when there was a good Western, Sunday Night at the London Palladium and a really good play. So you can see how old I am?
I seem to be stalking you Jimmy ;o)
Lottie we do actually go back a long way....;-)
A good film on sun night would be good

All the celebrity stuff
heartbeat
period dramas
the royal

etc etc is pants in my opinion
Only problem with films is that they would be forever stopping for ad breaks and I find that very irritating and refuse to watch them on ITV.

But I do agree that Heartbeat has now run its course and should be replaced
Films in the 8pm slot are usually too heavily edited to be enjoyable and we've usually seen them elsewhere by the time they are shown on tv.

By the time the film is on the tv, the dvd has been given free with the daily paper :)

I abhor Westerns
Plus they'd break the film up by putting the news on halfway through!
I didn't actually mean I wanted to see Westerns on a Sunday Ethel, just trying to show how old I was. I used to love Wagon Train, Rawhide etc. I doubt if I would enjoy them now.

But I really would appreciate good variety shows with talented acts, and excellent one off dramas.
i think that ITV have realised how successful the BBC's sunday nights have been with antiques roadshow now leading into LARKRISE. ITV have stopped the soaps at 7.30 which led to the captured 8pm audience, but it isn't working so bet they try some period drama to cash in on Larkrise's success
A few months ago the Beeb showed the indiania jones films at 8pm on Sun night, it was nice to watch a bit of nonsense before going back to work.

I agree with the editing, ITV once showed Beverly Hills Cop at 4 in the afternoon and literally all of it was dubbed lol
Our local news programmes here in Yorkshire (BBC "Look North" and ITV "Calendar") are both reporting that they are not "axed" per se, just that they aren't filming anymore for a while due to having loads of episodes "in the can". They are apparently due to re-start filming in 2010 but not before. Anyone else not believe this?
