A friend of mine bought a small television with a dvd player as part of the unit. After recording football of his other tele. he tried to play it on his small one. It would not work so he asked the suppliers and they said the inbuilt dvd player would only play bought dvd recordings. How can this be. Is it a case of analogue versus digital?

Normally if you want to play a DVD recorded on one DVD recorder on another DVD player you have to finalise it.

I have a separate DVD recorder and have to finalise a DVD before I can play it on another DVD player.

See if his DVD recorder has an option to finalise a DVD.

Also check if his the DVD player in his small TV can play both both types of disks, DVD+ and DVD-

It MAY be that the DVD player in the smaller TV can only play bought DVDs. Home recorded DVDs (such as DVD-R or DVD+R) are different from bought DVDs so may not work in some DVD players.
to further complicate things, my recorder wil only finalise +R or -R discs, but not +RW or -RW, which is what most people use as they can be recorded over. Therefore if I know i want to keep a recording i have to make sure to use a one-use disc.

I will have to ask him re this finalising of disc, like me I do not suppose he has heard of this The supplier did say that he did not know of an inbuilt that would play self recorded dics.
I will tell him re the +R & -R, possibly this may help.
But I think he has given up on it!

Thanks to you both for reply.
