Matrix

The computers / robots create a virtual world for the minds of the humans bodies they are growing - this world seems much like our world now. If the robots/ computers wanted the humans to be happy with their lot surely they would create more of a utopian world that the humans would love every minute of. then rebels anomolies are less likey to occur (wouldnt make such a great film though!) any thoughts?

No human is ever happy without struggle. it all becomes too easy. Schoppenhauer said that a life without pain is meaningless, and he was right to an extent. Look at our own case. as society gets more affluent and easier to live in people take up throwing themselves off bridges on elastic, jumping out of planes, going over niagara in a teacup etc. to alleviate the boredom.
I don't particuarly like the film, but as I understand it the computer feeds of brain waves and therefore an easy unstimulating existence would mean the brain wasnt being used fully. But I like your point and I'll add it to my list of why I think its one of the most overrated film around.
One of the points raised in the original film was that they tried the utopian version, bliss for all but the humans couldn't handle it.
Eastern religion has claimed the world we see is an illusion and behind it is just the one. Many claim to be aware of it having attained enlightenment. The Matrix replaced the idea of god being behind the illusion with a reality exactly the same as the one we were experiencing in the illusion, which negates the whole point of it, actually.
