I am looking to buy a laptop, I am an 18 year old student and I want to buy a laptop so that I can use it to do my college work. There are a few things that I am looking for: Microsoft Office, Wireless Internet enabled, Alot of storage. As I am a student I am also looking for something that I cheap, not over 550.

If anyone has any suggestions they would be appreicated. I live in the UK, so if you find a good deal it would be good if it was preferable from a UK company.

i was going to suggest an apple mac but not exactly cheap.. but the bonus of them are you dont even really need any virus software as you dont get any.. well rarely. we've had ours for a few years now i think and dont even have any virus software on it and never had any problems which is excellent as our last windows pc jsut got wrecked by virus's.
I was in my local Woolworths on Saturday and they were selling a few Medion laptops at 399.

They had 2 at the same price but one of them (with 512Mb of memory rather than 256Mb) seemed a good deal.

Here it is on their web site

Few laptops come with Office installed, and anyway a full version of Office is likely to cost you 200 or 300 pounds.

Why not buy the Student and Teacher version of Office that you can get for less than 100.

Note that Office 2007 is coming out soon so you may want to wait for that.
Or download one of the free office suites

Just to add to VHG's suggestion re openoffice.org. it will read an write MS Office file formats, so you shouldn't have any compatibility problems exchanging documents with other users, and you get to save yourself a decent amount of money which you can spend on other student essentials (such as booze).
