I wont say what the twist was in case anyone plans to watch it but 'Vanishing Act' - 80s film with Margot Kidder and Elliot Gould - was so unexpected. It's one of my all-time favourites.
No spoilers here!! Obviously, "The Usual Suspects" - an ending right out of leftfield! Also the excellent "Arlington Road"- are they / aren't they terrorists? Great ending. And "Memento", although the way it is filmed, could that be a twist at the start?!
The Sixth Sense had one of the best twists, normally I can see the ending of a film coming a mile off but I didn't see it coming in this one even though the clues are there if you want to see them.
The Sixth Sense with Bruce Willis - I didn't see the twist coming - but then I am very gullible ; )
I remember watching when i was young tales of the unexpected i dont know how many episodes were made but it was a short story with a twist in the tale also Alfred Hitchcock presents it was the same kind of thing a short story but with a twist.
snap - spooky that.
Yep, I was going to say that I didn't see it coming in The Sixth Sense, ditto The Others. As Froggequene says, when you think back over the film the clues are definitely there.
re: the sixth sense, my best friend said "you'll never guess what happens" - which unfortunately led me to guess exactly what happens and ruined whole damn film. I'll agree with Memento, just for sheer "what the hell will happen now" type stuff!
Personally I think The Usual Suspects has the greatest plot twist of all time.
I enjoyed Red Rock West starring Nicholas Cage who while being down on his luck gets mistaken for a hitman and goes along with it .....lots of twists all the way thru ...also The Others with Nicole Kidman and agree whole heartedly with Sixth Sense. And perhaps the hint that Decker was a replicant in Bladerunner?
The end of 'Shallow Grave' has a brilliant twist in it. The film is very dark, and violent - the story of what happens if you give three unpleasant people some money, and find out how unpleasant they can really be. The end - accompanied by Andy Wiliams singing "It's My Happy Heart" was so wonderful, I actually said "Yes!" quite a bit louder than I meant to, and got some very odd looks!
Angelheart I thought had a great twist - but I guess the point is, if you don't see it coming it will be good! And "The Others" - another one that I totally failed to guess. And "Seven"
I guessed the twist in Sixth Sense, but only because I was looking for it - but I didn't guess the twist in Unbreakable until moments before it was revealed, even though with hindsight all the clues are there. Although I guessed the twist in The Thirteenth Floor, it has quite a neat one - though if you have heard "it's like film X" or seen the trailer, which gives it away, it's worth a look.
Echo some of the previous comments ' The Usual Suspects, Arlington Road and Sixth Sense all get honorable mentions ' and if you even say the words "Angel Heart" to my wife, she gets the collie-wobbles! Also got a dim recollection of an old Dutch(?) film called The Vanishing. Think there's been a remake too. Seem to remember there's a twist in there somewhere... (can't ask too many questions in case I give it away. Maybe someone with a better memory can confirm?)
