Can't believe no one answered that - it's also one of the longest running shows ever.

It's Dr Who of course - started in 1963 until 1989, then came back in 2005. Even with the break that's 26 years.
People spotting UFO's !! lol
Stargate SG1 is the longest continuous series, Dr Who had a lot of breaks so it doesn't count as continuous
What about Star Trek in one form or another?
"Doctor Who had a lot of breaks so doesn't count as continous"

Not got a maths 'O' level then? - 26 seasons over 26 years of Dr Who as opposed to just 10 seasons of SG1.

I don't think Star Trek should be considered really - together all the series add to more years than Dr Who, but aside from being different programmes under one banner, many ran concurrently, and even then comes nowhere near the 26 years of Dr Who before the break.
and no i haven't got an O level or a GCSE simply because i haven't done it yet
The site you gave is clearly an American stargate fanbase, which is biased anyway. Perhaps if they had included the word "American" they might be correct, but they didn't.

Dr Who is actually credited on IMDb (totally impartial) as the worlds longest running.

and I still don't see how you could argue that 10 years beats 26 years on the trot before it was cancelled first time round.
The guinness book of records is impartial, if you don't beleive the site go out and buy the book for yourself.

Dr Who is listed as the longest, but not continuous

In the gateworld forum someone brought up this topic

heres the thread

Potterfan, I'm right, you are wrong, come back when you have leaned to count., or even read the question properly - it says LONGEST RUNNING, and does not mention continuous at all. Even if it did, one season a year for 26 years is still more than one a year for 10 years. I'd already seen that site you mentioned and it it just full of people trying to justify something because that's the way THEY want it, and completely ignoring facts. My god, what are they teaching in schools these days!?.

Anyway I'm not going to waste time arguing with you anymore - you are clearly a Stargate fan (I'm a fan of neither), and no matter what's said to try and convince you, you will disagree.
The Guinness book of records doesn't lie, neither does gateworld. It is not biased towards Stargate over Dr Who as there is a Dr Who section on the forum and a Dr Who episode guide is to be added to the main site soon.
The producers did say once that Stargate SG-1 was the longest running sci fi series in colour.
