Its in almost every action film - The Scene where the Hero has a Tough Job to Do. In a musical montage he straps on various Guns, Webbing , Grenades , Bazookas , Ammo and perhaps a Cosh! Meanwhile the camera is in extreme close up tracking over his Steroid fuelled muscles ( Heaven alone knows what Quentin Tarantion would have to say! )

Or its close cousin - The " Picking Up Weapons from the Armoury " Scene - wherein the Group of theives/soldiers/SWAT grab weapons from a Rack and wallop magazines into them ( all to a stirring Beat ! )

Anyway , my guess is that this became popular with either Rambo or a Simpson/Bruckheimer Action Fest.
Has anyone seen this faintly ridiculous " Tooling up " scene any earlier than the 1980.s?

well I do think that the scenes in the Magnificent Seven when the seven are training and preparing the villagers for the imminent attack, is an early version, the snap shots of the preparations show a more simplistic form, and therefore this in turn means that The Seven Samurai probably had a similar montage or sequence.

'Cat Ballou' has a good dressing up for action scene done by Lee Marvin and that's from the 60s.
