He is being prosecuted for drink driving, also having an open Tequila bottle in his car, and has admitted to alcoholism (poor man)

Nobody is perfect, there but for the grace of God, but unfortunately for me this somewhat dilutes the power of his "Passion of the Christ" film. Incidentally does anyone agree with me that the film was not so much anti-Jewish as anti-Roman ?

I had a copy of that film. I watched it once and then lent it to a friend. He said the DVD was blank, had nothing on it. As the DVD had the cover printed on it then I knew I hadnt handed him the wrong one. He gave it back to me, I put it in the DVD player that I had watched it on and sure enough, the DVD didnt play. Usually when you look at the back of a DVD you can see where the data has been burnt to it. Sure enough it looked blank. Weird or what? (sorry whif - totally out of context I know)
but to answer your question, no I didnt find it anti-Jewish. TBH I find people more knee-jerk over being anti semitic than any other form of racism. I feel this points to the holocaust and how they have been treated across the world. They've had a rough time, sure, but then again so did the 30m russians killed in the revolution in the same century.
I have read through alot of the reports on this and it is curious that the statements of the arresting officers have been made to readily available to the media, me thinks the greenback has played a large part. Mel has enough problems living next door to Britney Spangles without this, He made a huge mistake, but he won't suffer financially, which seems to be the wish of the media, but he has older kids who will be upset over it and they are his main worry. he is having to uproot after almost two decades to move away from that bint next door and I feel more concerned at that to be honest, than how his reportedly anti-Semitic comments may affect him.
plus of course his God awful choice to grow a beard
Poor Mel Gibson, yeah right! Good to see this holy-than-thou has had a bit of a kick in the balls. Im sure his $800 will help him through it though.
Not to sound too bitter but its about time. His films are always picking on one group of people, if its not the british its the jews and god knows who else has sufferedbecause of this fool.
I used to like Mel, but he's just turned into a muppet. I have no respect for drink drivers so throw him in a cell and tell him to stop whinging about his fame.
aviator that is a bit harsh, I don't think expressing your views through film is illegal is it? And interpretation is up to the viewer, I watch everything he is involved in pretty much and I take it as a piece of film making. he is hardly in the business of propaganda.
Anti-Jewish? Is that was the critics said? I never saw that at all in the film!

I have to say that I'm not a Mel Gibson fan though. After seeing him interviewed on Parky he came across as 'Mr. Hollywood' and also a little bit strange...

I have to ask though. Why on earth did Mel Gibson imply that Jesus invented the table and chairs? What the...????

Champagne !!!!??

You have me puzzled+++ here now !

Please explain ?
I'm Jewish, and have never seen the film, and have no wish to, however, I've read media reports of it being anti-Jewish, and spoken to people who have seen the film, and they say it isn't, so I guess it a bit of media hype.

He is anti- English though.
well i know his new project on the demise of the Mayan Indians should be stunning, it is another subtitled film too.
His father is a holocaust denier, and the transcript of his arrest for D.U.I states that he was hurling antisemitic abuse at the arresting officer. Whether or not Mel is guilty of antisemitism in his film of The Passion is neither here nor there when you realise that HE HIMSELF is an antisemite! Plus his films are rubbish.
Ok, maybe that was a bit harsh, yes he is free to express himself in whichever way he wishes which is the beauty of film. Maybe people havent seen it as anti-semetic and maybe people have, like you said thats the viewers discretion. I viewed it and gave my opinion.
As for his anti-semetic slurs, maybe he did, maybe he didnt, you would just hope that someone in his position with his religious views would be able to show respect and acceptence of others. I just think that if he is stupid enough to say things like that to a police officer then how could that biggotry not come out in his films?
The fact is, he was drunk and driving, if it was me im sure i would be punished, im pretty sure he won't. Same goes for the racial slurs, he's obviously setting a cracking example for his kids
Couldn't agree more Aviator. I'm sick of Mel Gibson et al "getting away with it". He is a bad example to his kids, a drunk driving racist! That's gotta be pretty high on most people's "Traits In People That I Don't Like" list.

...but then again he ROCKED in Lethal Weapon! Blam! Blam Kapow! Ker-Smash! "LOOK OUT THERE'S A BOMB IN THE TOILET!"

...with hindsight maybe he should be let off, you know.

...that was a great frickin' movie!

...c'mon it's Mel Gibson

...MEL GIBSON!
