Could also the be the hot weather making her system sluggish or water retention. Has it only happened recently? You could suggest she tries those yoghurt drinks (actimel, yakult etc.) for a couple of weeks and see if it helps. Might be worth having a word with her GP if it doesn't improve or if she's in pain.

She could have intolerance or allergies to food - wheat and or gluten are common and dairy also. Has she been tested for any of these?
Ah, in that case forget I said anything. There's been enough keyboard warriordom on here tonight. :o)
commonest cause of distended stomach could probably just some temporary digestive disturbance such as ulcer, gastritis and esophagitis...but again i'm an amateur ;o) A trip to the DRs is in order!
Don't rib her you could be doing more damage!

have i made an error and onto nhs 24? why would anyone ask for advice on this site ie medical, and why would anyone give an answer go to the doctor.
If smurfchops's sister was in pain or felt unwell I'm sure she'd be more than capable of making an appointment with her GP without our blessing, crete. Surely the nature of the site is to ask and answer questions? And as the general consensus was to see her Doctor, I don't see what the problem is.

Definitely not pregnant at her age ... Probably a bit sluggish, I will get her to drink more water and possibly exercise some more. Could be a wheat intolerance though, very interesting, thanks everyone :)
