It's part of the marketing/advertisings bag of dirty tricks to catch and attempt to hold the consumers attention, and it's very, very, very annoying.
The other thing I was also going to say was that often ads have music and it may simply be that our ears perceive a difference in volume between the spoken words of the programme we've been watching and the sudden break to something unrelated to it with contrasting sounds and music.
This is one thing I really detest ... I sit there with the controls and as soon as the volume goes up I turn it off ... makes me feel much better!!!!
The Paramount Comedy Channel is the worst channel for this i have to turn the wolume down every ad break
i don't think the actual volume goes up, thats not allowed but they do use special filters that make it seem louder. well thats what i read somewhere, can't think where though.
