Im pretty sure ( i learnt this recently in school) that it is like this...1:2 would be whatever is on the left is double on the right


so...no. of gls:meas of l
1:2 would be...
half of amount on right:half of amount on left


I know it sounds confusing but i have tried my best to explain it!
