I haven't watched in years, which is why I can't recall the name, but I mean the guy who used to be a London cabby. I cought the first few minutes of tonights by accident, and I saw he was wearing his cabby badge, which I thought he lost some time ago because he was convicted of something. Has he got it back? How, why?

Its charlie but i cant answer your question,,,sorry!!!
He is still a cabby. He lost his licence over something or other - not a serious crime but something licence-loseable, obviously. He had to to retake his test to get his licence back.
He lost it because he was convicted of assault on the bloke who raped his daughter. Well done Charlie, its what he deserved and about the only time a storyline in Eastenders has reflected real life in the east end.
