Why are the producers of Eastenders obsessed with the undescribingly annoying Slater family, played by 'actors' who simply cannot act?

because they are cheap to employ !
It is true that the current story lines involve the Slaters, mainly because the strands of the stories involving them encompass other characters. But, as is the way of soaps, while a main storyline is being acted, a subsequent storyline is being developed, and will slowly replace the current 'main' action. If you notice, there is a scenario involving Alfie Moon, and you can be sure that his line will gradually eclipse the Slaters, as will Phil Mitchell's developing love life. This is the way soaps always work, so if you don't like The Slaters, hang on in there - it won't last for ever.
So why (andy) has Ian Beale been around since the beginning of time? (not that i'm fed up with him or anything...)
What's goin' on? Love....you don't know the meaning of the word! Who's side are you on? And what's that supposed to mean?.......when you use these skeletal lines on which to hang your script, you're not exactly looking at tip top drama here. That old Slater woman has to be the most predictable "battleaxe" ever, and how thin would Kat's face be if you scraped that makeup off? This soap just goes to show that you don't have to write well to get onto the TV. Stage-managed awards ceremonies will always provide spurious justification for them. "Everyone's talking about it".....it's true. But most people must surely be talking about it in a very negative way. It is genuine guff. No half measures here.
