What does Bert know about Joe? - Last night Joe said 'if anyone asks, I'm a builder' and Bert seems to have some sort of hold over him.

I'm guessing they were in prison together or something equally dodgy! I don't like this Bert fella much
Joe was in prison for Fraud. and im guessing either Bert was involved or met him in prison. wont be long in coming out though!
who are Bert and Jo???
Joe and Bert actually had a very successful if strange career as performance artists in the sixties and seventies.Joe then left the act and lived in seclusion for much of the next 20 years.Bert found it very difficult to keep the double act going by himself and fell into a life of excess and beard growing. Finally,in 2003,Joe full of guilt rejoined the act (having frittered away his fortune on maltesers) but their time has passed.Words were said about Bert's beard and now he has come for revenge. My guess is that he will seduce Pauline and leave Joe a broken man.

he knows all about joes previous life, when he was known as Mr Benn and regularly had drug crazed/cross dressing adventures in a local shop.

he also regularly stole something at the end of these adventures

and he probably spent some time in a psychiatric hospital, because of his wild tales of mediaeval castles and dinosaurs etc

so hes a thieving druggy psycho who wears other peoples clothes.

he'll fit in perfectly in albert square...

..Bert knows all about Joe's secret life from the 70s..

....He knew Joe as a somewhat bizarre and reclusive character living in a small semi detached house. The only time he appears to venture out is to visit the "Shop" where he meets with a strange man wearing a Fez (suggesting some sort of Moroccan connection). Here is the pivotal point....they exchange words and the "shopkeeper" then takes Joe off to show him the "merchandise". Now, suppose this was a thinly disguised cover for the handover of ACID. It makes sense from here on, doesn't it? Joe then takes the clothing into the changing room (or should that be the "chill-out" room?), the clothing has the tab of ACID in the pocket to avoid either of the participants being "nicked" in the hand over process. Joe then "DROPS THE TAB" and heads off into a bizarre hallucination. He stays in the "Chill-out" room untill he gets to the happy stage of his comedown and then leaves with a smile on his face and feeling better for the experience. He returns to his house to sleep off the after-effects.

He also led a fantasy life that his neighbours knew nothing about, which involved visiting a dingy cubbyhole where he can dress up exotically and parade around to his heart's content. (It's also pretty clear that the Village People got all their outfits from that shop too.) And in order to return to everyday society, Joe must symbolically "come out of the closet".

...I resy my case....

Bert knows that Joe once met me as i was walking through Kew and I asked him where the Public Record Office was, I walked on after he told me trying to remember who he was! It only came to me later on and I felt really bad that I couldn't say thanks properly, it was 10 years ago and he was still very dishhy even though he hadn't been on TV for a while after Big Deal finished. He
sorry.... He must live somewhere just there near Kew as he was walking towards a row of cottages just before you go ubder the bridge before the PRO
dot do you think we were born yesterday? How unlikely is that. Get a grip woman.

Do you think that will become the next 'in' catchphrase? "If anyone asks, I'm a builder" .

Errr it actually happened! I know cos I was there! He had on a black crombie coat and a scarf wrapped around his neck and he had gold rimmed glasses on he was carrying a newspaper and I was walking thru Kew towards the PRO and he was the only other person around I asked him where the road for the PRO was and as he looked at me and spoke I thought, It's him! But couldn't remember his name, so i just said thank you very much and carried on! LOL

She's right you know , I've seen him in Kew as well , down by the Green and near the retail park.

thank you galltin! At the time he wasn't acting apparently but I recognised him as i had liked him in Big Deal a few years earlier but always associated him with Cathy Come Home as my Mum used to like him too and she remembered him from that.

Yes , hard to believe now but he was a real looker when he was young.
