I think it was filmed at Greenaway, Agatha Christie's home which overlooks the river Dart. I think Dillmouth was the name she used for Dartmouth.

The promenade and cliff scenes looked like Sidmouth to me.
Yes, the seaside shots were here in Sidmouth - for a few days in the summer part of the seafront was closed off while they transformed it back into the 30's. Not usually much goes on round here, but that seemed to get people talking for a week or two!

I wondered where this was filmed too, as the version starring Joan Hickson was filmed within a couple of miles of where I live. The red sandstone house featured was up Luscombe Hill in Dawlish and the mental asylum (where the father was an inmate) was in Starcross, which are also in glorious Devon.


Sadly, the lovely granite Starcross Hospital no longer stands, a housing estate now takes its place. I suppose that's progress for you.
