I read of an interview with Sally Wainright in which she admitted that her first draught for the final episode didn't sit well with Sarah Lancashire, who turned up at the writer's home armed with 'lots of notes'. The episode was re-written and, while we'll probably never know just how SW had intended the series to end, when it came, the finale was excellent. As were the entire 3 series.

The best British TV drama ever Ken imhp.
Apparently, there are lots of people complaining about the ending and that it seemed rushed.
I think some people wanted to see Faisal being arrested and Rob being found out about the child abuse, and I suppose if it had been on for another half hour, they could have shown that, but it has to end somewhere, and I thought the ending was good.
Question Author
If it was Sarah Lancaster's idea to link the first episode with the last then I think she's brilliant!
Question Author
As Ken's post indicates ^^^
I thought it was a little bit underwhelming myself. I thought there was a lack of 'menace' from TLR but I do get that he was reduced to his cowardly wimpy true self.
Barsel, the problem some people have is they want everything tied up with a neat little bow. Had the fates of the two been shown, those same folk would have probably wanted to know if they had received 'inmate's justice' in prison, then what happened to the ones who had administered the justice:-))
The fact that Rob was arrested for what was on his phone and Catherine gave her boss the nod about Faisal was a right and proper end. IKMHO, i hasten to add.
Yes, but, the secondary storyline/s weren't given as much time proportionally in the final Ep, as they were in the rest of the series. I thought this let it down as well.
Question Author
I agree with Ken on this.
MissT I agree that is the best drama in a decade at least but tied with Peaky Blinders. Have you see PB?
/// The best British TV drama ever ///

What nonsense. Plenty of other better dramas. For example The Forsyte Saga for one. Goodnight Mr Tom for another. I'm sure there are more which I can't recall at present.
Question Author
LB. Not seen it. Neither of us have ever fancied it. Probably because it seems to be all about gangsters and gambling. I might be wrong. But all the bits I have seen advertising it are so gloomy.
Question Author
Each to his own Canary. I like both the dramas you mention. But I think they're at a different level completely.
Canary I know you have criticised it before but did you actually watch it?
Ken, as I said, I thought the ending was good.
What does IKMHO mean?
I see a lot of abbreviations like this and I don't know what they mean.

I knocked my husband over !
Question Author
'In my honest opinion'. But I don't know what the K stands for.
Barsel, i got myself a brand new laptop just before Christmas and the keypad is hypersensitive. When i type quickly, i often find spaces in between words (i.e. Va lley) or extra letters appear where they ought not to. In this instance, the 'K' is making a rogue appearance :-))
Had it been the 'M' that was missing, i could have pretended the IKHO stood for 'In Ken's Honest Opinion':-)
