is it helpful to have films like this to fuel the conspiracy theorists? A lot of moon hoax stuff started after the film Capricorn One 1978, ironically it was actually about a trip to Mars. So why are they stoking the fires of the stupid once more?

Atheists (such as myself) could ask the same about films such as The Greatest Story Ever Told, The Ten Commandments, etc, etc, etc.
It's a fiction film TTT.
Are you suggesting an end to science fiction films, TTT?
This is a SF film about the moon being an artificial alien-built object. I think anyone who honestly believes this to be truthful should expect a visit from the men in white coats.
Honestly Tora, if you created entertainment with one eye on the loons who will use it to further their own peculiar views, you'd never write or film anything.

This is fiction, and yes, some conspiracy theorists will jump on it, but what percentage of them will be in the audience that watch and enjoy the film for what it is, escapist fantasy.
Sounds good. Yet more evidence the moon landings were a massive hoax.
people will believe whatever they want to believe as always.
It also isn't the first time a conspiracy theorist character has been part of SF movie's narrative.

"The Lone Gunmen" played a large part in the X-Files, so much so that they received their own spin off series. Other great movies, such as Close Encounters, Capricorn One, Enemy of the State, The Manchurian Candidate, and even Independence Day feature conspiracy theories or theorists. It's really nothing new.
Oh dear, you obviously haven't read the full synopsis or watched what Mark Kermode had to say about it?
It's made by Roland Emmerich and runs the full gamut of space-film tropes, it's hammy and it's funny and MK advised people to go to the cinema (the loudest biggest screen you can find) and immerse themselves in the sheer nonsensicality of it.
Incidentally because the moon has no atmosphere a falling body will have no terminal velocity - it will keep accelerating until it hits the surface & potentially have a much greater impact than it would on earth. just saying.

Among all the religious and other assorted weird, informative and interesting works that occupy the shelves in my study, I have a book that suggests the moon is an artificial satellite so it’s not a new idea. I don’t believe it for a moment but don’t see a problem with making a film about it. I’d watch it. I quite like sci-fi. I think we’re going to watch the new re-make of ‘Dune’ tonight.
The so-called moon-landing was staged and filmed at Sudbury, Ontario because of its rather unique looking "moonscape' topography, and it was quite windy that day hence the flying flag...Not a lot of people know that.
Sanmac; Oooooh; do tell us more. Do you have any evidence, or were you tongue in cheek?
I was there the day of the filming but couldn't get near the set because of all that pesky yellow-tape they had strung up all over the place. Proof? Yes, I took photos of the Big Nickel while I was there watching the activity: https://www.google.com/search?q=the+big+nickel+in+sudbury&client=firefox-b-d&;source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwjN5sv68ej1AhUPjYkEHVdaCywQ_AUoAXoECAIQAw&biw=1024&bih=615&;dpr=1#imgrc=0mj-N-p0lvZR3M
As if a man would travel all the way to the moon and not walk on it...I mean, c'mon.

It's like going to the Maldives and not bothering to go on the beach.
