Was talking to Mr Smow last night whilst watching I’m A Celeb...... now he is the calmest person I have ever known in my entire life. I have NEVER seen him frightened, scared, cry etc, but he admitted if there was a trial involving being in a room with spiders there is no way on earth he could do it, even if he knew they didn’t bite or could hurt him. So I joked and said what if my life depended on it and he said no sorry!! Lol.
So what is it about spiders that terrifies so many people??
Or do you have a phobia about something else??

Spiders...at least in the UK...dont bother me.
But if its wet, slimey, leaves a trail...I have a very real aversion that almost causes me to feel ill.
birds!

Birds??
yes Birds, any birds
Slugs....*shiver*

I have a fear of stairs. Not a phobia though, just a fear.
Being in a bedroom with three beautiful naked women.
Please don’t make me.....oh, go on then.
Hate wasps, love bees.

I get the wasps and slug thug. And yes even I don’t like stairs - I’m always terrified of slipping and falling down them.
Birds? Well, umm, all birds??
yes, it's not an unusual phobia I know of someone who had to see a hypnotist to rid her of the fear
I used to be totally impossible about snakes, if one came on the TV and we turned over but I was still upset because I knew it was still there.
In one school the biology department kept snakes and I taught a lesson in the biology lab, one day the technicians came in, apologised for interupting my lesson, he was look for three snakes that had escaped!
I don't like spiders but am not frightened of them. My phobias are earth worms - difficult when I love gardening so much, and small spaces. I had to go for an MRI scan but couldn't do it I had a panic attack. I had to go up to Newcastle to an open scanner, which looked like two polo mints one on top of the other, but still hated it.
We went on holiday. Arrived about 1am. We were being taken to our room which was outside and down a few steps. Missed the last one and fell over and landed on my elbow.

Had an accident on the way to said holiday (not my fault) so started my holiday with a massive bruise on my left arm and a bruised elbow on my right :-)

That hotel had so many steps. Tiled, very painful, looking steps.

Personally, I think I could do any trial with snakes, bugs, beetles , but yes again spiders- no way!! Is it the amount of legs, the way they crawl?? I honestly don’t know!
Question Author
Which ones are earth worms?? Are they just normal worms?
Ouch ummm,! That sounds painful!
Heights.
I become attracted to the edge and then want to jump.
As a child my grandparents took me tothe pantomime every year and always booked the front row under circle and I would look down onto the lower stalls and have this urge to jump.
Took a cable car from Singapore to Santosa Island and had to resist the urge to jump into the sea below lol
No idea. I think some of them can be quite cute. And they get rid of flies.

Some things make me less easy but I'm unsure I'd consider them a full blown phobia. Others might.
There's a big difference between not liking something, hating something, and phobia's. My daughter got a phobia about sirens i.e police, fire engines, ambulances, and whenever she heard one, she would go to pieces and she had hypnosis which got her over her fear. I wonder if Bobbi got her fear of birds after watching the Hitchcock film?
Phobias vary, from a vague dislike right through to abject terror, and I think most people's phobias are down towards the 'dislike' end of the scale.

I dislike most creepy crawlies and all spiders, but I'm not frightened of them.

I do sufer from the common urge to jump off balconies, so I try and stay away from them when possible.

My late father-in-law would sleep on a hotel room balcony if the night was hot, I could not entertain doing that.
