In light of the recent news that David Jason, 80, is charging up to £375.00 for a signed photograph with him, would you say he was a national treasure as loveable rogue Del Boy or a desperate old greedy man who has been milking a comedy career that ended over two decades ago???

Did it ever start? The comedy career that is.
I wouldn't pay it, but then why would I want a signed photo anyway? I tend to suspect that those who collect autographs these days are looking to make a quick profit on Ebay, so no harm in the signer looking for his or her cut.
He was ok as Granville in open all hours ( as a co-star ), never found 'Fools And Horses' very funny really. Liked him as 'Frost' though.
ah, a bit more to the story, then.

Still seems obscene amounts of money for any of these packages.
they're optional.
I think charging for pictures is a bit out of order but that does not detract from his huge body of work.
Luvvy jubbly!

And I thought that I was the only person in the country who never found Fool and Horses funny! I've had some very aggressive conversations when I've said that.
So have I, zebo.
A different report pointed that it was a charity event and ALL the money went to the charity. People knew in advance exactly what they were getting and what it would cost.
David Jason was brilliant in Only Fools and Horses.
If it’s for charity or he needs the money and everyone knows what they’re getting, then OK.
I like him and he was great in Porterhouse Blue.

I should imagine the majority of packages bought for the charity event were the Bronze Package @ £55.
If it was for charity he's not a greedy old ***. Why do you have a problem with raising funds for charity, nicelander?
Whether for charity or personal enrichment, the man has something that people are prepared to pay for.

What a nerve eh?

This time next year, Rodney, you'll still be a plonker.
National Treasure? Were did they dig him up from?
I'd describe him as both a national treasure and as an astute businesman (which I thoroughly applaud).

Many other 'national treasures' have charged mega-bucks for things such as personal appearances and after dinner speeeches (with Ronnie Barker quickly coming to mind here), so it's far from unusual.

Politicians make plenty of mone after the main parts of their careers are over, with William Hague making £24k from a single speech, David Cameron charging £120k and Tony Blair getting £195k (source: https://www.lovemoney.com/gallerylist/64364/25-people-making-a-fortune-from-public-speaking ).

So I don't see why actors (who're often a lot more popular than politicians anyway) shouldn't make money when they're able to.
Says in the link all the money is going to the charity Diabetes UK. So doing a nice thing, not greedy then.
Why not?
