Would it be The Full Monty? Is Peter Stringfellow from Sheffield cos I don't know if he is or not. The year sounds about right though.

Yep fatcat hit it on the head

Stringfellow was born in Sheffield (14th October 1940 if you were interested)

And yes The Full Monty was a 1997 release
