Watching the final stage of the Tour today, I love seeing the skyline of Paris, it is a most attractive city ...but what is the rather ugly building which towers over its surrounds and looks like a meccano mad mouse ... I can't believe anyone even contemplated building it.

The Montmartre tower is quite pleasing, though out of character, but this stands out like ..........!!!

You might mean the Pompidou Centre, with a lot of its 'innards' on the outside.

Once I described a building as looking like 'an oven-ready turkey'
Didn't know the architect was standing in front of me.
I got such a look.

How some things are created from their nightmares beggars belief!

Wow, which Pompidou Centre are you lot looking at?

It's arty, modern and futuristic at the same time.

If banksy had a home, this is where he'd live!
lol, but you're quite right about the Pompidou Centre, really should be called the Pompidon't.

An acquaintance once went to the SP building, and was quite pleasantly surprised at the interior.

I was only half joking. The Eiffel Tower was meant to be dismantled in 1890 but it never happened. Now it's very big business thanks to foreign tourists. Not so the French. The only ones who go there are those that work there or thereabouts. I was told by a native, and this was 20 years ago, that the lift boys were on £30,000 p.a.
Le Centre Pompidou is one of the world's most stunning architectural achievements. I've spent many hours simply admiring it and trying to work out how it can look so different from different angles. e.g.

It was co-designed by one of Britain's greatest architects, Richard Rogers (a pioneer of 'inside out' architecture), who also designed the fantastic Lloyd's Building in London:
