I can't seem to find a good banana anywhere lately. I usually get mine from Tesco or Sainsburys. Yesterday I bought a small bag from Co- op, as the loose ones looked horrible. They looked ok in bag and I felt pleased with myself. When I had one yesterday it felt soft and as I pealed it it was rotten all through. Tried another, the same! Has anyone else experienced this. Oh for a decent banana!

Ne-Ne Na-Na Na-Na Nu------No
they're as bad as avocados, some are okay but how do you tell? Overall I do best at Tesco, Waitrose's and Sainsbury's seem unpredictable.
I don't know about bananas but I will never buy strawberries again. Bought a punnet last week from Morrison's together with a tub of double cream as a treat. I ate one and had to bin the rest; it was like chewing through wood. They looked delicious in the package.
Jackdaw, I grow my own strawberries but would never buy them out of season - only British strawberries in the summer.
The most likely reason is they've been frozen at some point. A hazard I suppose of wanting exotic stuff all year round.
I never seem to have any problems with the bagged 'ready to eat' bananas from Asda.
I get most of my fruit from the Coop, and haven't come across much in the way of problems.

But bananas ripen very quickly, which is why I only buy a few at a time. Pears are even more problematical.

Strawberries are rarely worth buying in the winter, as they are almost always tasteless.

Stick to seasonable fruit perhaps ?

There's three of us in our house who eat 1 banana a day. Might go to Sainsburys later and look at loose ones first which are usually green!
Take them back and get a refund.
I got some in sainsburys on Tuesday. I always buy really green ones and they are perfect.

I'll send some down Patsy ;)

You're not supposed to put batteries in them, patsy;-)

Loose bananas don't always look appetising, very under ripe.
