Did the farmboy confess to his mother that he had killed the girls? I couldn't quite make out what he said.

I thought it was a brilliant episode, and didn't expect that at the end. I was stunned.
The sound was better, too.

I also struggled with the sound. I also thought that the farm lad killed the girls. Did his mother really shoot him in the end? Is that police officer really going to get away with murder? Is the guy in jail the little lads father?
I thought the farm lad killed the girls and that his mother did shoot him. What is she going to do with his body? I think Tommy is the boy's father.
How's it all going to end? I think next week's episode is the final one. Looking forward to it. Sarah Lancashire has to win a BAFTA, doesn't she? She's been fantastic.
"" I think Tommy is the boys father "" ??
bobbie - the guy in jail is ryan father.

I didn't realise that the farm boy/woman were mother and son, i thought they were brother/sister
Anne - Tommy raped Catherine's daughter, and she had a son - the boy who lives with Catherine. The daughter committed suicide which is why Caroline hates Tommy so much.
I thought the mother shot her son at the farm as he had admitted the murders.

It seems a bit late to be asking this, but why exactly is Tommy in jail?( I didn't see the first series.)
he was part of a plot to kidnap Anne in the first series, only he took things too far (rape and murder of a police woman and attempted murder)

1st series is well worth a watch, i didn't see it when it came out and ended up binge watching it over two nights, after the first episode of series 2!
several things actually, including kidnap and rape.
Definitely makes more sense if you've seen Series One...
We dont know yet if the mother shot her son as we never saw it.
He could have turned around, grabbed the gun and shot her, or he turned around, grabbed the gun and it discharged into the ceiling.

Thank you both for filling me in. It's a brilliant series, well-written and top class acting.
trt - I thought I saw blood-spray on the window but it was a distance shot from outside the house.
Question Author
I thought that too, bhg
I was expecting a second shot, killing herself!
I've just watched the last few minutes again on Iplayer. The mum has the gun very close to the back of his head, the picture cuts to outside the house ,you hear the gunshot and blood splatter appears on the window.
I forgot to say; nowhere did I hear him say that he had killed the girls, just that he'd done something bad. His mum asked whether it was to do with the girls but he didn't answer directly.
I know Tommy is the father. I wonder if the farm boy was confessing to having sex with the females as opposed to murdering the. ?
Interesting thought anneasquith; I think we were meant to be mislead into believing it was him.
My money is on Neil as the killer.
