Christmas was around long before Jesus - it was the pagan mid-winter festival of Yule until the Christians hijacked it. I send cards & gifts because 'tis the season to be jolly, not because some bloke was born (probably in September) 2,000 years ago.
Its entirely optional OG - no one is forcing you to participate. I send 'Yuletide Greetings' and in some countries most cards have 'Happy Holidays' on them.
Yes, because people send them to me and seems churlish not to reciprocate. Most cards sent these days do not relate to Christmas anyway, snow, snowmen, robins, stagecoaches have nothing to do with a child supposedly born in the middle east.
Of course I send cards they normally have little cute Christmas animals on them or a fat little robin. Nothing really to do with if you believe or not.
It would be like asking 'if you are atheist why do you partake in Christmas?'
Yes I do. I tried to stop but no-one believed me and they all kept sending, so, weak as I am, I succumbed and so anyone who sends me one gets one back. I am absolutely certain though that most of them do not think of the true meaning but just send them because it is the thing to do, as of course do I.
I don't personally send cards - but not for any religious or anti-religious feelings - I simply don't bother with personal friends and business collagues, and they don't bother either.
My wonderful wife sends cards from us to mutual friends and family - she is a Christian, but I have no feelings either way about whether or not the cards are 'holy'. The nuns, priest and church friends we know do get holy cards.
Those that send me Xmas cards get a Happy New Year card. We don't celebrate Christmas -whatever anyone says, its two faced to celebrate 'Christmas' if you don't believe in God!
no i don't, i did send them to my parents for a while, just because they moaned if it didn't but i don't bother with that now, as long as i call on the day
I send fewer now and overseas ones are ecards - only send religious ones to the few I know it means a lot to , all my others I hand make and are more cute than religious.
