Did this happen off the A46 going down through Pennsylvania, or off the A36?

Neither - Lansdown Lane.
Is Pennsylvania near Bath?
It's on the A46; there's a cluster of villages called Dunkirk, Pensylvania, Petty France, etc, from the days when Flemish weavers settled here after fleeing religious persecution in Flanders.
Wherever it happened, that is irrelevant to the sheer tragedy of this horrible accident, that has cost the lives of a little girl and three adult men.

What I would like to ask however, why do the media deem it necessary to publish the photograph of this lovely little girl, what is their reasoning behind this, is it to upset folk even more?

AOG - "What I would like to ask however, why do the media deem it necessary to publish the photograph of this lovely little girl, what is their reasoning behind this, is it to upset folk even more?"

The media does have several peculiar but entrenched procedures - and this is one of them.

Similarly, the always mention if British victims are involved in air crashes, they always have someone standing out in the snow when it snows, they insist on having a reporter standing outside a building where 'talks' are taking place ... and so on.

I think they feel that the nation will 'connect' with the tragedy more intensely if they can put a face to the name - and that is why this poor little soul's photo is being shown.
they often publish photos of victims, of any age - if they can get the photos, which is easier if the victims are local etc. It's so we're reminded that theyr'e real people, not just names. I don't find this strange or objectionable.

I agree with your last two example, but not the one about the air crashes, surely it is of concern to know if any of our fellow country persons are involved?

I am not sure about that AOG - I don't find it more or less tragic that anyone has died based purely on their country of origin - so I don't feel more sad that British people are involved than any other country's population, a death is a death.
AOG because the medium you have been watching it the television and not the radio ( OK you dont watch the radio .... do you )

so it obvious that one will broadcast a photo of the cute dead kid

I am not sure that the broadcast of the photo of their child that the parents gave to the mmedia in the first place will ADD to their grief

AOG I thought you were gonna ask why tipper lorries for the sake of safety dont have their brakes soldered permanently on ....
