Re the author I mentioned, I have known him for donkeys and we meet up when he comes over to the UK as he stays in my town. I am a member of a group who protect a famous shipwreck

He wastes thousands of pounds each year searching for this shipwreck as he will not believe that "our" wreck is the one he is looking for.

Sadly since his wife died he has made a rapid slide into dementia and I doubt he will travel to the UK again

Very interesting mrs o, why does he not believe that your wreck is The Bonnhomme Richard ?. Shame about his wife and his dementia.

Our wreck has been checked over by the US Navy, experts from the US Parks Dept (who deal with US historical wrecks) and many other experts and we have been given an 85% probability that it is the Bonne Homme Richard. No other wreck sank in the area during that time period
This is not good enough for him and he has been funding an annual search since around 2003.
His organisation (NUMA) is superb at finding wrecks (he found the Marie Celeste off Haiti for example) and I think he always wanted this to be his final and most superb challenge.
His son Dirk has taken over the reins but I don't know if he will continue.
Sorry, but I am a total nerd when it comes to marine archaeology (and seaweed)
Sounds like he has wasted a lot of money on this project mrs o. don't forget your expertise on a certain make of rubber gloves.
sorry to but in mrs o, but more power to you with the Bonhomme Richard - it's a great project, all the best with it! x
