What a wasted opportunity, I was looking forward to an account of the life of Le Dame de fer and all we got was, "she's going senile hammerred" home at us. Yes lots of old people suffer the same, accept it and tell the meat of the story. I cannot claim credit for this account from IMDB but it sums up the movie very well:
"dementia dementia dementia ghost dementia marriage dementia dementia ghost irakillspolitician, why? dementia dementia dementia makeover dementia ghost shewontlistentoanyoneaboutthefalklands, why? dementia dementia dementia ghost ghost herhotelroomisbombed, why? ementia dementia dementia denentia horridtaxtobepaidbytherichandpoorinequalmeasure, why? dementia dementia ghost gone. "
Wasn't made by Arthur Scargill was it?

I lived through it too. And I came out the other side same as you did. Whatever your political leanings there's no denying that the Thatcher era was a hugely important part of recent British history and pretending that it didn't happen is plain daft.
I reluctantly started to watch it...then was drawn into it completely. I thought the contrast of her dementia with what she had been was striking.
I also expected some sort of biopic..I was pleasantly surprised as the film made her human.
I'm not ignoring it brainfury, I just don't want to go through it again. Think I'll leave it to the historians and the film makers. And by the way, I don't like the implication that I am daft, plain or not.
She had a difficult fight to the top and was lucky for Dennis' support. Her policies made sense to me. As PM she had little support from the queen, who I feel resented her success.
Go through what again? Its a film...
Well, it reminds you of all the bad things that happened during her term of office ummmm and I don't particularly want to be reminded, it is too painful.
It focused on the present as much as the past...and the past was dealt with not just as fact but also as her memories....as a dementia sufferer, she was living in the past to a certain extent.
Here it is to watch online for those who really really want to see it again

I thought it was a brilliant film, really well put together. I must admit I did warm to the Iron Lady and Dennis having watched the film. It reminded me of "A beautiful mind" which was a similar theme, true story, someone famous, hugely intelligent, but loosing their mind.

I, too, thought the contrast between the past as PM, and the present, an old lady with Alzheimers was just scary. We all have to grow old !
If she was so, at the time, detested, why, please tell me, was she in office for so long?
Falklands.
Labour had become unelectable until Blair.
I agree with Star....I'm not pretending that period of history didn't happen but the woman turned my stomach then and the very mention of her does now. I despise her for what she did to this country so it was a film I couldn't watch.
It was PM Harold Macmillan who told the nation 'most of our people have never had it so good'.

It was PM Thatcher who proved most of people have had it.
I ask again: if she was so unpopular, despised, and denigrated, why was she the longest serving British PM??
Stewey...I wish I could answer you but I left for Canada when she got in. There's only so much a body can take.
As said, victory in the Falklands helped her get another term, Stewey
I can't stand the women but it was her fellow Tories that got rid of her not the British public.
OK, Mt, that's what BF posted. So, at the time, she was "liked"; but, in retrospect she is "despised"? (Gness, are you in Canada?)
No Stewey, back in UK. Oh was sent over with British Steel temporarily when Alberta was becoming oil rich.
Alright. Thinking we might be neighbors:)
