Does anyone else wish the BBC did a BBC+1 channel like ITV and Channel 4, I find these so useful to tap into especially if two programmes are on together on different channels which you want to watch. I don't have a video recorder now and BBC I-player often runs slow and freezes.

I often miss something on the BBC channels and think that I'll just catch it on +1, then remember that they don't do it.
Have you considered getting a 'YouView' box?
Question Author
I have seen the adverts JTH, could you please be kind and talk me through how they work please? e.g. Do you pay any extra subs once you have bought the box, I'm not good on technology :(
Firstly, let me say I was an existing TalkTalk customer, so can only explain from that perspective.
As a TT customer, I pay £14.50 pcm for telephone line rental, and £14.50 pcm for my broadband service.
The YouView box was subject to a £50 installation fee; but this also included a brand new router (which is now also my WiFi-provider for this laptop I am using).
The £50 was added onto this months telephone bill.........and that is it, as far as finances go! :o)
The box itself is surprisingly small (12"x8"x2"). It is connected to the router (and therefore the router needs to be plugged into a telephone point) and needs a connection to a roof-aerial, too.

Now it is possible for me to tape two-channels at once, pause live-tv (if the 'phone rings half way through something), scroll-back to the start of a programme (if I didn't have chance to pause it).....go back up to 7 days to watch something. It records programmes without the need to build in 'buffer-times' before and after the broadcast times. Recording is done by highlighting the programme in the on-screen guide-list and pressing a single button!! This same button allows you to record an entire series without the need to reset every week. It allows access to all the 'players'; ITV, BBC, 4onDemand, etc., where there are entire back-catalogues of series to watch (I'm presently working my way through Misfits).

I'm completely besotted with it and am rather looking forwards to the cold, dark nights and rotten winter-weather as I shall then have a good reason to stay in with my YouView box! :o)
You should be able to press the red button on your remote when tuned to any of the BBC channels (1 - 4) and most of their programmes will be available to watch for 7 days on the bbc iplayer. In the case of a series, they are all available for 7 days after the last episode. Press the red button when on a BBC channel and a menu of programme subjects will pop up, either scroll up or down for the type of programme you want, or search for you favourite via the search facility at the bottom of the menu.
If you have Sky then there is also the BBC HD channel and the BBC1 HD channel that do show some BBC programs at different times.
To watch the HD channels on Sky you need to pay extra, unlike Virgin. We often record 2 on the Sky and watch a third on the Freeview setting.
On Points of View recently this question was asked by a viewer and answered by some BBC face. He said that they reckon i player covered most of the bases. Jeremy Vine did not follow it up by saying that many people did not have that facility or anything other than their tv. I personally find the plus one facility on 4 and ITV brilliant as I can always watch immediately that which is missed by opposite scheduling.
Yes I do!
I'm on talk talk and when i was on the phone to them last week they offered me the youview deal but when they then checked the power thing we don't have fibre optic broardband in the vilage which means it is not fast enough broardband for a youview box to be installed.

Thanks everyone for their advice, just come in and will digest your very helpful suggestions this evening. I see several agree with me BBC1+1 would be nice, perhaps we should forward this post to the BBC :))

So do you watch YouView on your TV or your PC? (sorry bit thick!)
Ann - I tacked a message this morning on AR on then end of your FAO to me last night
Yes, I have often wished I could watch BBC 1 & 2 an hour later! Seriously thinking about getting a You View box or one of the nice Samsung TV's in the January sales!
The question can be rephrased "Does anyone else wish the BBC would use some of its (frozen 'til 2017) annual budget to set up and operate a channel predicated on and dedicated to the broadcast of repeats?"

Timeshifted channels are a convenience difficult to justify in terms of value for money outside of the commercial sector; commercial broadcasters can charge extra to advertisers for the double-bubble but the BBC would need to fund such a channel entirely from public funds (TV licence fee) to the detriment of its current output.

If you want two channels of repeats I could suggest which programmes the BBC axe ;-)
Hello Ann, yes, definately. Ive said this too lots of times recently.x
I have a tv digital recorder, its a recorder box that you buy from any electrical supplier, I bought mine from Argos.
just connect it up and record any programme on freeview and normal tv. no subscription to anyone.
I can watch one channel, and record 2 others at the same time.
depending on which make you choose the cost is about £90 for the cheapest model.
one of the best things ive ever bought, but it took me a while to get the hang of it though
