panasonic viera recording / 3 minute standby

Techie help, please!

Sometimes when I'm recording something (usually a late night movie) on my panasonic viera tv, an onscreen '3 minutes to standby' message pops up, which I don't understand and so ignore. I later find the recorded programme's incomplete. Have been unable to find any guidance on this particular problem in the Viera manual.

Theres probably a setting somewhere to turn off it going into standby mode after so many hours. Keep meaning to set it on mine.
