Edf energy bug craze

After the EDF energy adverts with the little dancing orange bug, I've noticed a huge craze with how popular this little orange character has become. Even to the point where people are making there own key rings and badges etc of the character to sell on eBay.

Can people do this or is there a copyright law?

Don't know bob but what a shallow lot we are that can go crazy about a couple of orange blobs. I've always assumed it was a glow-worm BTW
