Never mind what it was, just squash it immediately. I'll lend you a shoe if you like.
it was one of "those" - you did the right thing
I hope it didn't have time to send a mayday message or there might be some more coming your way. (only joking)

Question Author
Saw something vaguely flapping around (don't have the big light on), then it landed on a window - safe to say it is squashed to buggery and in the bin. No idea what sort of bug it was though, but obviously some blood sucking thing.
Question Author
God, not a cockroach - wouldn't have gone near it if it was that big.
The tooth fairy's evil twin?
Question Author
No idea squarebear, looked just like a flying earwig (gone all itchy now), must have been over an inch long but skinny (well, flat now).
Best place for it - int' bin - an ex bug!
Ugh, If that had been my daughter she'd have been running around flapping her hands, she's hopeless with anything crawley.

Hi lard, wondering if there are any more about now. It's wings made a right racket against the window. Will have to see if I can find out what it was.
Have a google of Devils Coach Horse beetle.
Question Author
Just googled flying earwig (and devils coach horse) and earwigs have wings, so it was a flying earwig. Well, you learn something new everyday (ok, it might have been something else, but I am ok(ish) with a flying earwig).
^^ MayBug also known as Cockchaffer.
Question Author
Ratter, if it had been that big I would have given himself a shout, it was long but skinny.
Bet it was a Maybug - and you squashed it, the poor thing! You big bully you :) I would have trapped it in a glass and put it outside - I don't kill anything.
and I hope this gives you nightmares Sherr :))

I don't generally kill stuff but I could tell it was evil, it had that 'look' about it.
Haha Ratter beat me to it - sorry Ratty :)
