Quite so.
Let's hope no one who is or was an alcoholic sees your post then Jayne? Otherwise they might get seriously annoyed at your flippant comments regarding a serious addiction.

If you want to find people to be offended B00, you will always find them.
B00 - to be fair to Jayne, this wasn't about serious alcoholics - some bunch of retards are trying to term "functional alcoholics" for us who enjoy the occasional bevvy or a bottle of grape juice - but still are in control of our senses and can actually go dry for a few days.

More of the goddamn PC brigade and they need taking down.
or even five and a half weeks as recently done......hic
Ahhh right, fair 'nuff. Apologies to Jayne then. Having not watched the programme (I'm watching Superscrimpers!), I wrongly assumed it was about alcoholism.

Apologies again Jayne :-)
But then Jayne does drink enough to keep Central Brighton going, particularly when it is bath night......

Five and a HALF weeks? Not that you were ticking off the days or owt. :)

No need, B00 ... x x x

The woman who was just on said that she started to think it was normal to have "a couple of glasses to unwind".

They are not dealing with people who blow their child benefit on vodka.

Their case subject is Anne Robinson. The life of millionairess TV presenter Anne Robinson has not been totally destroyed by alcohol.

I think this programme might have been someone's hobbyhorse?

OMG, DT ... that picture is SO me!

Except I'm not blonde ... my hair is crap mousey.

And that girl is frighteningly wrinkle free.

Okay okay ... that picture is really nothing like me.

I have a nephew who is an alcoholic, as opposed to a drinker, or maybe a boozer. Believe me, he is a pathetic sight - it makes me feel ill just to look at him, and I think I am very tolerant. He will 'borrow' money from anyone just to get his alcohol. I would not wish this terrible disease on anyone. He has been dried out several times but is soon back to square one. Terrible.
well maybe it was five weeks and a few days, Douglas, have done it for 8 years now - and a couple of weeks in the summer -not about being a pizz-head but more for countering weight....

Yes Starbuck, when it becomes serious or even semi-serious (def to me - affects behaviours and relationships), then it needs action -and it ain't pretty in an awful lot of cases.
Question Author
This programme is very pointedly not about unfortunate people like that, buck.

In fact, that is the whole point of the programme.

It is focussing on people who haveno need to borrow money, no life worries, etc.

If the programme was about unfortunate prople like you describe, my view would be very, very, very, very different.
The youngest bro of one of my closest friends (godfathers to each others kids) went on a combo of too much alco and powdery substances, having worked in the City.

Tragic, appalling behaviour within the family despite their support, and then too late - his continued love of the Warringtons bottle tipped him over and bang, cirrohsis (sp) of the liver and exit, leaving behind a 7 and 5 year old boys....apart from a destroyed marriage.

Horrible.
I'm relieved DTcrosswordfan, as soon as I hit the submit button I had visions of a hospital stay or a spell in the clink and me grovelling. :P

DT ...

Somewhat more than "a couple of glasses to unwind" then ??
I know, jj. but I just had to tell you about him. It is so awful and having watched him I know how difficult it is for him to stop drinking, well he can't and that's the straight answer. It will kill him eventually, his liver is already affected. Moreover his mother is afraid of him - I think that is awful too.
Question Author
That's awful, buck.

how much does someone have to drink to be classed as an alcoholic? I know someone who has a bottle of wine a night (which he calls a couple of glasses) but he classes himself as a normal average drinker, it seems quite a bit to me
Question Author
cazzz ...

Does it depend on whether he enjoys it ... or needs it !
