OK so I got my new battery and it is now on charge. It is taking forever. How long should it take to charge a brand new battery for my camera ?

I think my Ixus takes a couple of hours to charge but it lasts absolutely ages once charged.I've only done it twice in 2 years and have taken a fair number of photos.
