One hears this said on numerous occasions, but mainly by younger persons who could not hope to look as good in their clothes, as someone who happens to be much older than them.

Older men have also been criticised for stealing mainly younger men's fashions such as jeans.

Providing that one dresses tastefully does it really matter how old one is, or does one have to 'dress down' because of their advancing years?

No it's not mutton dressed as lamb, but no woman looks good in the pink t shirt denim skirt ensemble. I think women ought to be able to wear whatever they like as long as they're happy with it. Many older women are far more glamourous than their younger counterparts and certainly shouldn't dress down.
It's mainly said by people of a similar age group about someone who has eschewed the usual 'beige-iality' of advancing years.
I think she looks great as well.

Mutton dressed as lamb to me is young hairstyles, loads of make-up and tits on show...
She looks extremely good for her age and has a great figure. However, that skirt is a tad too short for a 65 year old, no matter how good her legs.
(I'm thinking of when she bends down or sits & crosses her legs - 65 year olds need a little dignity.....!)
I think she looks great too. Age shouldn't come into it. If you look good in something then wear it. It's down to dressing wisely and knowing what suits you.

Generally, there are bits of us as we get older that we don't want to show off however - but if the bits still look good then no problems.

However, We should all wear what we like anyway, unless it really does cross the boundaries of decency.
anoth - when you start judging people by looks - think you have lost it
It is a phrase used by the older generation as mutton has more or less disappeared from the butchers' shops. I like the put-down, "Mutton dressed as mutton!"
i think she looks nice
Agree with JTH. Generally it's an expressing used by elder ladies who are bound by convention and wear beige!! (or are jealous that they don't look as good!!)
Beige......never.... if I do beige shoot me
I don't intend to ever be dignified Salla!! Watch what you are saying I hit 65 next year!!!

Actually the 60's/70's taught me how to sit modestly in mini skirts. A lot of youngsters haven't actually grasped it, or actually quite like exposing all!!
Ooh Lottie! I'd love to see you posing in your skimpies.

I wonder if a really pretty woman went out wearing a fluorscent shell suit you could refer to her as 'lamb dressed as mutton'?
nothing wrong with wearing jeans if they are comfortable whatever your age, however wearing revealing clothes more suited to a 20 year old in your 60s looks a bit sad to me.
Mike you will never see me in a Mini Skirt these days, let alone skimpies. I don't like my knees any more. I cover up these days, but that's not because of my age. It's because I don't have the figure any more!!

I did, and I made the most of it!!!
