how can i get my sky+ box to record?
, i don't subscribe to sky anymore ,but can't even record BBC 1 for example, they seem to have put a block on MY box, thanks in anticipation.

theyve not put a block on YOUR box, theyve put a block on THEIR service.

youll need a new hard disc recorder.
You can't use it for recording unless you subscribe to the service.
if you've stopped paying then understandibly they have stopped providing the service, do you imagine they would give it away?
If you don't subscribe you don't get, just as R1Geezer says. You can't even watch back what you've recorded as well. That's the way the cookie crumbles.

But they don't own the box! and why shouldn't i be able to record mainline channels etc, i purchased box privately.It's Big Brother again.
No, the box is the hardware necessary for the Sky+ functionality. You still have to pay for the functionality. It's like software on your computer, you own the PC but that doesn't mean that you can get all the software free. Think of the box as the PC and Sky+ as the software. Not big brother just a simple supplier/customer relationship.
