It's a shame he has Parkinson's, but he is one lousy actor!

He belongs firmly in the Connery / Caine school of acting - one voice and expression for every role.
yet he's earn't a good living.
shame he has Parkinsons, he shouldn't give up acting, and he is a good actor.
Yes it is a shame, but he can't give up acting, since technically, he has never actually started!
He's very popular, whether you think he can act, or not. He was interviewed about this a couple of weeks ago on TV. Sensible decision.
matter of opinion wouldn't you say.
watch the film The Long Good Friday and tell me that is not a brilliant performance.
Mona Lisa is a class film, I side with the Pro Bobs!
and he is awesome in Roger Rabbit.
I have watched The Long Good Friday - it is a good film, i have also seen Alfie and Doctor No, which are also good films.

But that does not excuse the lead actors in all of them playing exactly the same character in every film they make from then on - with no variation of accent, tone, demeanour, exzpression, or appearence.

The ultimate 'emperor's new clothes' adoration of these people is Connery getting an Oscar for The Untouchables, pl\aying an 'Irish' cop.
Pennies from Heaven, brilliant, Mona Lisa, already mentioned, brilliant.
so he has been in some films that didn't do well or he was winging it, but he isn't a bad actor.
boxtops - popularity is absolutely no gauge of ability - on that basis The Spice Girls are better artists than Jeff Buckley.

I appraciate tha people like the films of all the actors i have name-checked, but that does not in and of itself affirm that they are talented, or that they are not one-dimensional.
andy, this is a thread celebrating bob hoskins, you have made your point.
Sorry I should add - :)
you might say the same of John Wayne or Gary Cooper. The ability to remain essentially yourself while playing different roles may be "one-dimensional" or it may be stardom.
''or it may be stardom''

In which case Jason Statham and Keanu Reeves truly 'gifted'.
^ are truly 'gifted'.
he is a good actor, same way John Wayne was. They didn't always play to type, and as much as i appreciate we all have different opinions, can't see what is bad about him.
I said "may be". Being a star doesn't necessarily mean you're gifted. But if Andy's suggesting Connery's never been a star... well, er, I disagree.
best thing Connery ever did was the early James Bond films. Not so much for his acting skills, but he was the best of the Bonds, in my opinion...
I didn't suggest that Sean Connery has never been a star, rather that he has never been an actor.
