she can go to her local council, apply as homeless through domestic violence (that's what it is) and start a new life in a refuge - will be difficult and lonely, but she won't be abused anymore. i wish her luck x

She hasn't and will not ask him to leave she knows that he wouldn't go and make life alot harder then what he is putting her through now. thank you for the link i will sure pass that on. i can also tell her about the refuge i never thought of that. thank you so much.

Lots of family law solicitors offer free half hour initial consultations so I'd advise your friend to find one of these and go as soon as possible. There are also hostels out there that can take mothers and their children BUT some of those aren't particularly nice (shared rooms etc). It would be far better - if she isn't intending to leave today - to start getting all the information together so that when the time comes, she knows exactly where she is going and what she needs to do. My limited knowledge of family law is that it isn't unusual for the mother (if the main carer) to be able to stay in the house following a divorce but there is a long way to go for your friend until that happens. I wish your friend the very best of luck.
