On Traffic Cops BBC1 last night showed the aftermath of a fatal accident. A Citroen Saxo had been hit broadside by an MPV and had collapsed like a crushed drinks can. How can a car like this pass a side impact test and be deemed safe.

Hi, I seen that as well, the taxi driver was going fast & met the other car coming towards him broadside, combined the two vehicles speed I do not think anything, apart from cars with side in-pact bars within their doors would come out any better Sigma, again who was at fault? with respect to the lad that had been killed if he had been driving in a sensible manner & not tear @rsing he would not have lost control & hit the kirb.

"How can a car like this pass a side impact test"

Largely by being manufactured 2 years before side impact tests become a requirement.
Nice one Chuck and as TWR said their not that strong anyway.
vehicles just cant be built to be totally impact proof a majority of collisions are front end, hence why more effort is put into front airbags and collapsable front ends to absorb the crash..Unless of course you drive an F1 Redbull..
