Just a couple more questions:

I take it that "I wanted a menacing profile picture for a social networking site" doesn't qualify as a good reason?

And if one has a lawful reason for possessing an offensive weapon in public, can one then take a photograph of oneself in possession of that weapon? For example, I am carrying my lovely scythe home from the gardening centre. May I be photographed carrying it?
