My employer is informing us of their intention to start a 4 day week from 01 March for an unspecified period.

What procedures are they obliged to take before implementation? Can any one advise? We have a contract of employment.

Can't advise, but having been around during the three day week's, what would you rather have - the chance of a future job, albeit it different to what you are used to, or no job at all?

You misunderstand. I have to let me team know and I want to make sure I have followed all procedures.
They are obliged to consult with you (individually - unless collective bargaining rights exist on the site) to explore options.
Tey are then obliged to put in writing what they propose to do.
They are obliged to give you at least your contractual notice period before changing it (generally 4 weeks or 1 week/per complete week of employment for those over 4 years service - unless specific contract says different (more).
